What is a Captioning Assistant (CA)?

CapTel provides real time captions (similar to closed captioning you see on TV) for individuals with hearing loss who use our service. The captioning is provided by our CAs listening to one part of the phone conversation and repeating what they hear into a state-of-the-art voice recognition application that transforms those words into text in a display box on our clients’ telephone. In other words, instead of our CAs typing everything they hear, they repeat what they hear into a computer. Learn More

What skills are required to be a CA?

Basic requirements for the position are that candidates must have a clear voice with good enunciation, good spelling skills and the ability to accurately type 35 wpm. All candidates must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or equivalent.

What is your application process?

The most efficient way to apply for a position is to download, complete, and return an application. You can email, mail, or drop off your application at any of our locations. You may also send us a resume; however, a completed application must be filled out prior to scheduling an interview. The recruiting department screens all applications and will contact you within 72 hours of receiving your application if we are interested in scheduling an interview. Candidates can start earlier in the morning or work later at night. Candidates must be able to work at least 15 hours per week and a minimum of one four-hour shift on the weekend.

Are there opportunities for advancement?

CapTel frequently offers many wonderful opportunities to grow into supervisory, technical, and leadership positions within the organization. Our employees are encouraged to apply for open positions that advance their careers by moving into training, quality assurance, customer service, supervisor, human resources, administrative, recruiting, or IT positions. In the past, over 90% of the positions that become available have been filled internally.
