Ideal for people with some degree of hearing loss, the Captioned Telephone, or CapTel, works like any other telephone with one important addition: It displays captions of every word the caller says. Users can listen to the caller, and can also read written captions in the CapTel's bright display window.

Project Endeavor provides discounted CapTel 840i equipment for only $20.00 to seniors with hearing loss that are on a limited income. (Requires Internet access.)

For people who do not already have Internet access, qualified seniors can receive the CapTel 840i plus high speed broadband Internet service through Sprint for just $50 ($25 a year for a 2-year plan).

About Project Endeavor

Project Endeavor is a program of the CSD funded by a two year contract with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). This program focuses on providing deaf and hard of hearing Americans with access to broadband or high speed Internet through discounted Internet service plan and Internet devices. Project Endeavor also provides an array of training materials and educational resources for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.
